Students throughout Ohio continue to struggle with mathematics, as evidenced in the state's Ninth Grade Proficiency Test math learning outcomes. In particular there are five proficiency test outcomes that are the hardest for students to grasp. These five are the basis for the lessons in the Ohio Math Works project. Proficiency Objective #2 Compare, order and determine equivalence of fractions, decimals, percents, whole numbers and integers. Proficiency Objective #3 Solve and use proportions. Proficiency Objective #5 Solve problems and make applications involving percentages. Proficiency Objective #6 Select and compute with appropriate standard or metric units to measure length, area, volume, angles, weight, capacity, time, temperature and money. Proficiency Objective #11 Find surface areas and volumes of rectangular solids. At the front of the Teacher's Guide, you'll find a grid of the mathematical concepts that are explored in each lessons and correlations to Ninth Grade Proficiency Outcomes in Mathematics. Following the Nine Grade Proficiency Outcomes, is a second set of grids which show the Correlations to Mathematics Competencies Required for High School Graduation, aka Tenth Grade Proficiency Test.
