Safety Issues
OK, it looks dangerous. I mean, hanging hundreds of feet in the air cant possibly be
safe, right? And it feels dangerous with all the loops and curves, the rush of
heading downhill and the feeling of both being lifted off your seat, yet held in by a
restraint (you know -- the exciting part of any ride!). But is a roller coaster
really safe? The industry answers with an emphatic Yes!
Statistically, roller coasters are the safest ride in the park. Each day, safety engineers
spend hours going over every inch of track, examining each portion for wear and tear, or
anything that could indicate a problem. Even at the concept and design stage, the
responsibility of safety is taken very seriously, as engineer Walt Davis explains in this
video.
